For teens struggling with health issues, it can be so hard for them to feel like their providers actually "get" them.

What does working with teens look like for you?

>> Maybe you have a current or future caseload of teen clients, and you feel anxious and eager because you don’t know where to start with them or how to grow your following. You want guidance on how to easily build or grow a teen caseload.

>> Perhaps for you, working with teens just feels AWKWARD. You can roll with little kids or grown ups  ... but get weirded out with teens. You want to confidently connect with teens and parents, speak their language, and help them without eye rolling or awkward blank stares.

>> It could be that you just don’t feel like you know enough about teen health. There are other experts out there who are SO good with teens, and you want more knowledge and mentoring so you can be like them and give teens the best care possible.

But what if you knew you could...

I'VE GOT GOOD NEWS FOR YOU

You can develop expert skills and knowledge to holistically guide teen and 'tween clients and their families to create a healthy lives that inspire them and reflect what they truly love.

It doesn't involve you learning Tik Tok and Snapchat, delivering the latest treatment gimmicks, or taking a million courses without seeing the return.
There are key areas of knowledge and skill that will set teen clients up for success in body, mind, and spirit as they they move into adulthood.
And once you discover them – being a practitioner who serves teens and 'tweens will be a lot more energizing, inspiring, and fun. That's what you wanted when you got into the profession, right?

"For 2 years I've filled a community "Mom and Me Menstruation" class for 'tweens both in person and online"

"Dr. Granger has been instrumental in helping me launch a new program for teen girls and their moms. For 2 years I've filled a community "Mom and Me Menstruation" class for 'tweens both in person and online. Dr. Granger's level of expertise in this arena is unprecedented, and her ability to hear my vision and guide me to the best resources has been invaluable.  She is a pioneer in the field and I'm so lucky to have her as my guide!"

Carrie Koziol, PT and Pilates Teacher at Pilates by Carrie, Chicago, IL

I talk daily to PTs and health pros who say the following things about working with teens...

"I have taken a million awesome adult courses, I can easily just apply it to teens. It's all the same human body, right?"
"Once they're in middle or high school, they're smart enough to understand things like my adult clients do."

"Working with teens is the WORST. It's so uncomfortable, they don't seem to care, and they're always on their phones."
"I love pediatrics - but once the client's met all developmental milestones, I don't know what to do with them anymore."
"I am a parent of a teen myself, so I totally know how to care for them as my patients or clients. It can't be that different."
"The worst part about working with teens isn't the teens. It's the over-involved helicopter parents who think they know everything."

THE TOP 3 REASONS WHY MOST HEALTH PROS FALL SHORT WITH TEENS

And why should they? Most formal health training includes little info -- if any -- on teen health. Less than 10% of US pediatric health systems include special teen programs. Teen research is tough to standardize since they're all in different places developmentally, and mostly focuses only on extremes like elite athletes, obesity and heart disease, and suicide and mental health crises. It's no wonder that so many teens easily fall through the cracks.

Most health pros didn't have teen years that were full of sunshine, butterflies, and clear and confident communication with others -- the only "training ground" they really have for learning to "speak teen!" Thus -- they may find themselves triggered when a well-meaning-and-worried parent starts questioning their decisions as a provider. Navigating one's way through the parent-teen dynamic can be a challenge for even the most skilled clinical providers.

Knowing all about health conditions is great. Having a million great treatments, exercises, or programs can be super helpful. But PTs and health pros fall short when they want "things going exactly as planned" with teen clients. One day, a teen totally to "get it" and is making progress, and the next --  they fall off the wagon and couldn't care less. It can feel tough to keep up with them! As they evolve and develop rapidly, so, too, must their providers.

ANY OF THOSE THINGS SOUND FAMILIAR?

IT'S OK -- YOU CAN SAY YES.  THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU. AND YOU'RE TOTALLY NOT ALONE.

I speak to so many PTs and health professionals who are totally missing the mark when it comes to working with teens.... but it's not their fault. They're in a system that is literally designed to make teens fall through the cracks.
The truth is, most of the existing health training and health systems out there only really cater to pre-adolescent pediatrics or adult care, which means that most providers have no reference point from which treat teens except as either "big children" or "small adults."

But 'tweens, teens and even young adults don't see themselves in either of those boxes, so why should we?

Effectively serving this age group goes well beyond simply having knowledge of their physical health conditions.

The truth is, so much of what makes working with teens most fulfilling has less to do with what age-specific conditions are present and more to with the emotional connections we are able to make with them as a trusted ally in their lives.

Teens need physical therapists and health providers who totally "get them" inside and out and can keep them from falling through the cracks.

And physical therapists and health pros need to undergo teen-specific training and develop age-appropriate practices for their teen clients and families. That's what leads to empowered and enthusiastic client buy-in and participation plus sustainable outcomes for this unique population as they move into adulthood and beyond.

THIS IS WHY THERE IS NOW A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND SPECIALTY TRAINING COURSE THAT COVERS THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF TEENS AND 'TWEENS.

It doesn't take adult information and mistakenly attempt to apply it to teens.

It isn't a pediatric course attempted to be stretched into clients who no longer see themselves as kids.

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?

>> You want to get over the feeling that working with teens is awkward and cringeworthy
You keep seeing them on your schedule, and you know that it's sink or swim -- and  you'd prefer not to sink. You know it will take some learning and mentoring,  but that you do have something really special to offer teens ... even if right now you'd prefer to crawl under a rock instead of work with more of them!
>>You want to start or grow a teen-centered specialty practice or caseload
You know you LOVE working with teens, but you aren't sure where to go to find the right resources or how to grow in your expertise. You're looking for guidance, knowledge, and mentoring to bring more teens -- your favorite clients -- into your life so that you can have more fun in your job!
>> You want to figure out how to get teens and parents to "buy in" to what you're doing
You have some teen knowledge and skill, but struggle to get teens to open up to you, get on board, and be compliant. And you're struggling to convince parents why they should miss school, practice, or pay cash to see you. You know you need some guidance and knowledge to them both to be raving fans!

"Even when, as a PT, I thought I was doing the 'right' thing, Dr. Granger was able to show me how small changes could (and did) make a big difference."

"I sometimes call Dr. Julie Granger “the Parent Whisperer.” This past year, my daughter sustained 2 injuries in cheer. Having to take time away from her sport resulted in anxiety, fear and even some questioning of whether cheer was the sport for her times a challenge. Dr. Granger was able to communicate with my daughter in a way that put the two of them on the same level. As a parent, she me gave practical advice and suggestions on how I could change and modify my own words and actions to help my daughter cope in a more positive manner. Children are not born with coping skills, and parents are not born with parenting skills. Even when, as a PT, I thought I was doing the “right” thing, Dr. Granger was able to show me how small changes could (and did) make a big difference."

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

This class is delivered in 6 sections plus several specialty presentations to help you become an expert at helping teens, whether you work in pelvic health, orthopedics, sports medicine, pediatrics, acute care, neurorehabilitation, and more.

MODULE 1: GENERAL TEEN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

You may be super awesome at working with adults or children...but teens aren't small adults or big children.

They're their own unique cohort, with their own unique physiological makeups.

Effectively serving teens means having knowledge and skill to handle age-appropriate  developmental physiological conditions and differential diagnoses that may be encountered in teens in the healthcare setting.

In this section, you will:

Meet teens and families where they are by providing age-appropriate, family-centered health and wellness assessments and interventions to promote physical growth and development and address the unique physiological needs of adolescents growing up in a busy, fast-paced world.

Put on your "teen lens" so that you may screen for teen-specific medical dysfunction, make appropriate multidisciplinary referrals and be a powerful member of the multidisciplinary team. You'll learn what is or isn't a concern in teens -- and how this differs in teens from children and adults.

Gain clarity on teen-specific developmental physiological conditions including normal and abnormal growth plate conditions, bone density development, gut health, immune health, connective tissue health, energy and metabolism, chronic pain, cardiovascular health, and general injuries.

MODULE 2: PELVIC & REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Whether you specialize in pelvic health problems or want to incorporate pelvic and reproductive health as part of a holistic health and wellness plan, it is important to know how managing pelvic and reproductive health issues differs in teens from both children and adults.

There are unique challenges and opportunities in helping teens in this realm. As teens have a diverse understanding of and comfort in these topics -- health professionals must treat teens with appropriate knowledge, skill, and informed consent practices when discussing and treating teens in the pelvic and reproductive health realm.

In this section, you will:

Gain knowledge of and be able to discuss the expected and unexpected pelvic and reproductive health changes associated with puberty and adolescence. Be able to screen for deeper medical dysfunction and make appropriate referrals regarding the teen menstrual cycle, bowel and bladder health, abdominal and pelvic pain patterns, and sexual health patterns (if applicable).

Be able to confidently discuss and manage teen- and age-appropriate conditions (within your scope of practice) including – puberty, menarche, menstrual health and health literacy, the female athlete triad/relative energy deficiency in sport, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, premenstrual dysfunction, urinary incontinence, abdominal pain, constipation, pelvic pain.

Gain confidence to successfully navigate sensitive topics – including  when and how to help teens and families be comfortable with providing informed consent and assent, when it is appropriate to perform  internal evaluations and/or treatments, how to be an ally when discussing issues of trauma and abuse, and how to having conversations with teens with or without parents present.

MODULE 3: NEUROCOGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT & PHYSICAL LITERACY

Teens learn and acquire information about their worlds, bodies, and lives in unique ways.

Whether they're problem solving or decision-making, mastering calculus, learning to code, or mastering skills on the soccer field or tennis court -- their neurocognitive, neuromotor and physical literacy skills are constantly shaping how they experience the world.

It's important to have knowledge of these systems to set teens up for success to learn about their bodies, minds, and spirits as they navigate the teen world and beyond.

In this section, you will:

Apply "teen brain" constructs to health and movement-related concepts including the development of postural and deep core control, physical literacy, motor learning, and movement skill acquisition in teens multiple health settings.

Set your clients up for success with learning and skill acquisition - develop a foundation to provide age-appropriate teaching-learning and interpersonal skills with ‘tween- and teen-aged patients and clients.

Get clear on how the teen brain learns, processes information, and thinks – with topics including development of executive functioning, decision-making, skill acquisition, learning styles, consequential thinking, and problem-solving.

MODULE 4: PSYCHOSOCIAL & EMOTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

One of the #1 reasons clinicians tend to shy away from feeling comfortable with teen clients is due to discomfort with teen emotions and psychosocial factors. One day a teen may show up as what seems like a mature, balanced almost-adult. The next -- they may be full of emotions, attitude, eye rolls, blank stares, power struggles, tantrums.

Understanding teens' emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual development helps health professionals better connect with, inspire, and empower teens to "own" their health and care.

In this section, you will:

Understand what's normal and abnormal amidst teen "ups and downs" -- screen for emotional and psychological dysfunction, recognize normal versus abnormal teen emotional behavior, work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team and make appropriate referrals as needed. Understand that what may seem "abnormal" in a teen is actually normal given the greater context of what's going on developmentally.
Discuss the interaction between teen physiological and psychosocial and emotional factors –- such as the interplay between hormones and neurotransmitters, attachment, identity, stress, family emotional and spiritual climate, and personality and how it shapes a teen's perception of their health within the realms of relationships/groups, intimate relationships, dating, social media and technology.

Be able to connect with teens so they feel like you "get them" by serving as an age-appropriate role model, sounding board, and support system for teens. Navigate the boundaries between professional, confidant, and "friend" without compromising the teens' trust. Understand the interplay of “teen lingo,” family climate and familial relationships, siblings, parent health and parent behavior.

MODULE 5: SPEAK "TEEN" AND "PARENT"

So many health professionals report that they feel really stuck when it comes to "getting through" to teens -- whether that means getting them to care, getting them to take ownership of their own health or health programs, or navigating the sometimes awkward or intimidating conversations that come up with parents.

In this module, you'll develop empathy, compassion to meet teens and parents where they are, plus expert communication and coaching skills so that you. can join forces with them to create a bulletproof team all working toward the same health and wellness goals.

In this section, you will:

Develop age-appropriate teaching-learning and interpersonal communication skills with teen patients and their families. This includes teen- and family-friendly motivational interviewing skills and basic fundamental coaching skills.

Sharpen your "teen" and "parent" emotional intelligence -- be able to discern what behaviors are signs and symptoms of a deeper issue and be able to help teen clients and parents to step into awareness and ownership of their goals.

Teach on their level -- integrate your knowledge of neurocognitive, psychosocial and emotional development to develop health and wellness plans with age-appropriate instruction, and cueing for teens and their families.

MODULE 6: GROW + BUILD A PROFITABLE TEEN PRACTICE OR PROGRAM

Having knowledge and  skill to work with teens is one thing...knowing how to get them the specialty care they need is another.

Many health providers are excellent at gaining health-related knowledge and skills for the “nuts and bolts” of practice, but often lack the knowledge and skill to market and grow a profitable teen-centered practice or program.

Knowing how to build a network of teen-friendly providers who also "speak teen" will help you whether you completely specialize in teens or they're just an interest area in your caseload.

In this section, you will:

Find your voice and message to confidently explain to others why teens need specialized care -- from you! -- instead of babbling on for days trying to explain yourself to people who just don't seem to get it, don't want to give you the time of day, or think teens don't need you.

Build a strategic teen health marketing strategy that you LOVE and actually fits your life, business or job schedule, and actually gets you in front of the right stakeholders in your community-- like parents, coaches, teachers, other health providers, and teens themselves.

Navigate the conversation around "sales" and "whether you take insurance or not" -- and be able to help parents, family members, coaches, and other stakeholders see why and how your services will be worth the investment in your care for a teen's long term health.

THINK THIS IS JUST LIKE OTHER COURSES YOU'VE TAKEN? THINK AGAIN.

Here's what makes the Health Pros for Healthy Teens Course unique:

1. We include multidisciplinary specialty content from more than 20 experts in the teen health and wellness field.

It's one thing to take a course and get a ton of information thrown at you from one person. It's lovely to hear one expert's perspective -- but it can still be a bit one-sided.

Not in this course. We have provided bonus module interviews with more than 20 guest teen health experts.

PLUS, we are including interviews with the most important stakeholders in teen health -- parents and teens themselves.

2. You'll have support to digest, implement, and apply the content to your specific area of work and practice as you go.

Online courses can seem appealing -- do them whenever you want in your PJs, right?

But let's be honest -- sometimes it sucks to try and find the time within your busy schedule to watch videos -- and then be left on your own to do all the work.

We totally get that. So we've set it up so you will do the work in small, digestible bites over the course of several weeks

And we know most people work well on deadlines -- so we've built those in, too.

3. Expert Q&A guidance.

There are two recorded Q&A calls throughout the course to help you stay accountable.

4. There is a strategic marketing course nestled within this course.

Want to really make an impact on the teens in your community and grow your specialty caseload, program, or business?

It's time to stop spending your (or your employer's) time and money on things that don't generate new business. You'll not only learn the best ways to market toward teens, their parents, and their providers, but also how to prioritize your energy and time and feel confident that you can create a profitable practice that caters directly to teens.

MEET YOUR HOST: DR. JULIE GRANGER

I've been a PT for over 14 years, and have worked professionally with and mentored teens for more than 20. In that time, I've become a sort of "teen magician." I just love working with them and teaching others how to do it too.

But even for me, life wasn't always rosy as a teen. I struggled with a zillion health problems and injuries that constantly landed me in the doctor's office. Problems that we'd learn way later -- when I was an adult -- could have been better handled if I'd worked with someone who truly "got me."
Most of my teen years, I did what I thought I "should" do whenever health or wellness problems came up -- went to whatever specialist we were referred to, and was told  "Oh! You're so active and accomplished! We don't need to investigate this any further. Here's some medicine and supplements -- keep swimming and studying hard!"

And keep swimming and study hard I did (with a wealth of accomplishments and accolades to boot), but I still started to fall through the cracks in subtle, yet profound ways:

  • I remember rolling my eyes at the allergist in my teens when I saw there were baby toys on the floor in the exam room. I thought "I'm too old for this." Thankfully, my allergist identified why I couldn't swim fast anymore -- asthma --  and we treated it with inhalers and drugs. Fifteen years later we learned was actually a giant lung tumor.
  • I remember being 16 and crying in the car on the way to swim practice when the PT said "I don't know what else to do with you" after I'd done PT for 3 months and my back didn't feel any better. We learned a decade later I'd had a rare spinal growth plate fracture that only happens in teens.
  • I remember feeling completely traumatized as an 18-year-old college freshman at the hospital ENT clinic. They pierced my eardrum to treat an ear infection. All I wanted was someone to hold my. hand and ask if I could be put to sleep -- but that wasn't an option anymore for an 18 year old "adult."
  • I remember wondering what on earth was wrong with painful periods as a teen. I didn't know who to tell, because this seemed strange to discuss with a pediatrician--someone with a fish tank and Highlights magazines in the waiting room. When I did finally see my first "adult" gynecologist, it was so cold and sterile that I didn't feel safe. It wasn't until I was 30 that I realized several of the decisions I'd made around my pelvic health were misinformed, at best.

Truth be told -- I know I'm not alone in my own teen health experience.

Having worked (as a PT) with adolescents for years at this-- I have seen first hand that they, too, start to fall through the cracks as soon as they enter the 'tween and teen phase of life, just like I had.

They slip through the cracks -- not because health and wellness providers don't care or aren't smart -- but because teens and 'tweens often don't fit into any of the normal "pediatric" or "adult" medicine boxes.

For teens struggling with health issues, it can be so hard for them to feel like their providers actually  "get" them.

The truth is, most existing health training only covers pre-adolescent pediatrics or adult care, which means that providers have no reference point from which treat teens except as either "big children" or "small adults."

But teens don't see themselves in either of those boxes. So why should we?

What I know from more than 20 years of experience working with and teaching and publishing research about this age group, is that it's necessary to undergo teen-specific training and develop age-appropriate practices whether you work with one teen or one million teens.

That's what leads to empowered and enthusiastic teen client buy-in and participation plus sustainable health outcomes for this unique population as they move into adulthood and beyond.

This is why I love to mentor and teach physical therapists and health professionals to develop expert skills and knowledge to holistically guide teenage clients and their families to create a healthy lives that inspire them and reflect what they truly love.

And I invite you to join us in this first-of-its-kind teen-centered professional training course. It is the brainchild of over a decade of professional experience cobbling together hard-to-find teen-specific knowledge, skill, evidence, and clinical pearls as both a physical therapist and teen health coach.

This inaugural course promises to fill you with guidance, confidence, and know-how that will set you apart as a standout teen provider -- one who teens and families can trust to help them thrive in teenagehood and beyond.

It's time to set our teens and 'tweens up for success in mind, body, and spirit as they become strong, capable, and compassionate adults.

What is it worth to have knowledge and skill to give you...

  • Clarity to know exactly how to help teens so that they don't fall through the cracks?
  • Inspiration and direction to get through to teens and parents, even when it seems awkward?
  • Confidence and know-how to build a specialty program that caters to teens and their families?
  • Clear focus on how to build a teen-friendly network that supports your patients and practice growth?
  • Clear messaging to explain to other practitioners why teens are not small adults (or big children)?

And what will it cost you if you don't achieve those things?

My private mentoring clients pay me up to $5,000 a year for personalized teen health mentoring and education that helps them achieve inspiring practices and programs that cater to teens and reflect what they truly value.
But you're not going to have to pay that for this masterclass.
I've priced it lower because it's so important to me to get this information into the hands of a lot of people. There's an epidemic of teens falling through the cracks in the healthcare system, only to see problems show up down the line in adulthood.

So many adult clients often say "I wish someone had told me."

And I want teens and their families to learn the right things about teen health now to set them up for success in adulthood.

I want to see a world where there aren't teens becoming adults with problems that could have been easily addressed or prevented earlier...where they're thriving both in adolescence and adulthood.

Is there information on teen pelvic health?

Yes!

Few pelvic health courses exist that specifically address the pelvic health needs of teens in detail.

While the entire course is not a pelvic health ONLY course, it includes multiple sections that cover teen pelvic and reproductive health considerations -- covering everything from pelvic floor physical therapy, whether it's appropriate to do internal work or not, menstrual health, sexuality, nutrition and functional medicine, sexual and gender orientation, endometriosis and pelvic/abdominal pain, urinary and bowel dysfunction, and much more.

How much time will I need to dedicate each week?

Each main content module (Modules 1-6) is 1-2 hours long. Each specialty content module is 45 min - 1 hour long.

This course is designed in a way that you can do as much or as little as you like, depending on your goals.

If you would like to receive CEU credit, you must complete 18 hours total of main content and selected specialty content within 6 months of enrollment.

This is more than I can afford. Can I have a payment plan?

Yes! We understand that you may like to keep to a strict budget. You can choose to pay in full or pay in monthly installments. You can select the payment plan option when you go to register.

Will there be homework or assignments?

There will not be formal homework assignments, but there will be post-test questions for each of the main content modules, the entire course, and the specialty content modules. The module is not considered "complete" until you finish the post-test questions.

"I am so thankful for everything that Julie has been able to do for me, and I know that she can do the same amazing things in the lives of many others!"

"Since the first time I broke my arm in the sixth grade, and through many injuries since then, Julie has been there for me! Julie encouraged me to start a journal to record workouts, meals, etc., a practice that has promoted mindfulness and organization in my life. She also suggests a practice of goal-setting that is both rewarding and motivating, and always talks to me about what little steps I can take to become a better athlete and person. Julie’s holistic and specialized approach to teens reflects a passion for her job and her teen patients’ wellbeing. I am so thankful for everything that Julie has been able to do for me, and I know that she can do the same amazing things in the lives of many others!"

— Anna Thompson, College student & former teen client

IT'S TIME...

Enough is enough. It's time to step up and stop letting teens fall through the cracks of our health system.

Do you want to feel confident (instead of awkward) when you talk to them?
Do you want them (and their families) to feel like you actually "get" them?
Do you want to make a difference in their lives -- not just now -- but later into adulthood too -- so that they'll look back and remember you as a hugely important role model to them?
Or do you want another 12 months to go by, where you just kind of piece together random bits of knowledge and skill and barely get by with your ability to help teens?
I'm guessing you wouldn't be reading this all the way down the page if you had all you need and were happy with all that you know about helping teens.

No, chances are, you know you need and want more.

There are four things you need to create a practice that caters to teens and inspires them to live meaningful lives, take charge of their health, and make empowered decisions about their care...

You need guidance, confidence, know-how, and inspiration.
And you probably know at this point can’t learn it all on your own.

In fact -- given that this is the first of its kind course for teen health -- it's unlikely you'll find all the information under one roof anywhere else.
Maybe you’ve told yourself a gajillion times, “I just need to stop saying no when I really mean yes — say yes to taking that course, say yes to starting a teen program, say yes to doing that project that scares me, say yes to asking my boss for what I need so I can grow my caseload.”
But still – nothing.
The fact you make it this far down this page means you know it’s time to change and you likely won’t do it yourself. Otherwise, you wouldn’t still be reading this.
That’s why I invite you to enroll right now.
Whether you are at the beginning of your career journey or you are a seasoned teen expert — your next-level teen knowledge and skill won’t find itself into your brain on its own.
It would be my honor to team up with a world-renowned panel of experts to show you the way.
Make this your best learning experience yet -- so that the teens in your practice can thrive in adolescence and beyond. Join the Health Pros for Healthy Teens Course today.
With much appreciation,
Julie

"I was very discouraged before I worked with Julie, but she helped me with both the physical and mental sides of recovery."

"I was very discouraged before I worked with Julie, but she helped me with both the physical and mental sides of recovery. Now I am pain-free and enjoying swimming more than ever. Julie is one of the most hard-working and energetic people I have ever met."
